I think coffee dates are pretty innocent non-dates that help folks figure out if a real date is in order -- heck, you don't even need to drink coffee anymore with all the SB choices. It's usually the first step for me. But, I once asked a saleswoman in a men's store that I had been chatting with if she was interested in meeting for coffee sometime. She let on that she was not married and liked to go to movies with a girlfriend, so I thought she'd be open to it. However, she said she needed to get to know me better before she'd meet. I thought that was a "no" and left it at that. But maybe she thought that was more of a date commitment than I did.
No. I don't drink coffee, so it won't be Starbucks.

I thought that's what dates were for...?
The fact that she'd turn down a freebie night out (you were paying, right?) doesn't sound too convincing.
My wife has a friend who sets up coffee dates for the first meeting and asks the guy to wear a distinctive piece of clothing. She then arrives late; looks the guy over and, if he doesn't strike her fancy, she just leaves!

I agree with Sweet Like Sugar but blind dates are a bad idea.
I went on 2 in my life and both did not turn out well, especially the last one which was 4 years ago.

Glad I'm not the only one who has a terrible track record with blind dates. The last time I went on one, my date sat down wearing more makeup than I did. Apparently, he was looking for a girlfriend for after his sex change. Another reason to be happy for coffee dates...

When I had really bad blind dates I blame the friend that set me up. It is an indictment of them!
