I love my coffee - several cups a day, leaded black no cream or sugar. I've seen Doctor Oz mention a few times that coffee is a no no when it comes to weight loss. As soon as you stop drinking it, you'll start to lose weight. It's probably part of the reason why I can't stand Dr Oz - lol.
So does coffee hinder weight loss efforts? Agree? Disagree?
I lost 58 lbs last year and drank a cup everyday. What I did do was change up what I put in my coffee- sugar to truvia, full fat and sweet creamers & syrups to the powdered creamers. And I started measuring how much I put in my coffee. I was drinking a lot of calories before I started paying attention and trying to lose weight.
But it wasn't the coffee itself that was making me fat.
I think he was saying that the caffeine in coffee stimulates your pancreas to fire off insulin and the resulting drop in blood sugar (whether you've eaten or not) makes you hungry, therefore you eat.
I haven't really ever noticed that phenomenon, just wondering if anyone else has.
I'm not ready to give up my coffee. Sweets, alcohol, bread, pasta - yes. But coffee? No, I need my coffee. I drink as much as I usually do and I've managed to take off some of the holiday pounds so I guess I'll keep right on enjoying it.

Dr. Oz is a tidbit collector. That is to say, he collects tidbits of facts, tidbits of fiction, tidbits of stupidity, and tidbits of actual useful information - and mixes it all up in a big bowl. At the end of the mixing, he pulls out a sheet of paper with everything jumbled up, and the end result is the topic of the next day's show. He presents it all as fact. Because, of course, it's a fact that he gathered the material, therefore - it's fact.

That said - coffee is a stimulant food and a diuretic, so you probably shouldn't be drinking "several" cups a day. While it isn't causing you to gain weight and probably isn't making you eat more, it -is- stressing your nervous system, kidney, and pancreas. For that reason alone, you should cut down while attempting to lose weight, because losing weight while intentionally weakening your system is a pretty dumb thing to do.
I don't think coffee is doing any damage to weight loss or diet plans as long as you taking not more than 6 cups a day. Is it more helpful to arthritis or joint pain affected people also as it reduces the stress level.
