jaypee was simply saying that if the person you are dating is a parent, then it is nice to acknowledge them with a card on Mother's Day or Father's Day since the day is about celebrating all mothers and fathers.

NO!!
This is the same thing I always say to men who are dating women with kids on Mothers Day. NO!! They are not YOUR kids so you should not give gifts or do anything special. That is the job of the father of the child(ren) not you.
A nice card will do just fine. I get Father's day cards from people other than my kids all the time, I get them from my sisters, niece, friends, and a few coworkers that I have really good working relationship with, and my church always give out a small gift to all the fathers in the church. Father's day is to recognize the fathers and is not just for his kids only to do something for him. I also get lots of text messages saying happy father's day and I do the same. I send a text out to all the fathers I have on my contact list. And the father figures in your life should be recognized also.
I think it is a great idea. maybe even a small card too, I wouldn't just let the day go by with nothing.
Yup. No need for a grand gesture, but something small would probably make his day, especially if his daughter is with mom and mom isn't doing anything to facilitate father-daughter time on Father's Day.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks this way.
