I was actually just wondering if I should go on the first date or if such a difference was like walking into a burning building or something. Based on the response, I feel like I should be comfortable giving it a shot.

Liberty2011 I was strongly warned by a family friend a year ago to never marry a woman ten years younger than me. She married a man ten years older than her, is now in her 60s and is miserable.

I have no idea if it'll work for you. Some 23 year old women are mature for their age while many 35 year old men are really big stupid teenagers trapped inside a man's body. All things being equal, I don't think it's a long term proposition but that's okay if that's what you're looking for.

What's the worst that can happen? [DISCLAIMER: Disregard the previous statement if she sets the location of the date is somewhere behind Home Depot at 3AM or something along those lines]

Ugh! Let's be honest here. I don't know why people are lying to you. Statistically speaking, it's not going to work out. You've reached the dirty 30. Date women your own age. You're in two different chapters of your lives. She probably just graduated from college (or will do so soon) and you're already working on your career.

The Bigger The Age Gap, The Shorter The Marriage

ETA: A five-year age gap statistically means you’re 18 percent more likely to divorce (versus just 3 percent with a 1-year age difference), and that rate rises to 39 percent for a 10-year age difference and 95 percent for a 20-year age gap.

No, OP, that age difference isn't too much. You two might be very compatible, but as Liberty says, you won't know until you get to know each other a little.

Because why? He's too old?

I am not sure why. She did stay fit, and he really let himself go. Also, he coughs really loudly all the time.

It's weird that she's bringing a friend.

What happened to the girl right before Thanksgiving that didn't return your text?
