I have been to San Diego and San Francisco when I was 6. I don't remember anything about LA.
You mentioned solitude is why I asked.
You have to drive a 100 plus miles away from here to get anything that resembles "solitude" We used to go out to a winery that is out in the boonies here and we'd pull into it and the silence at times was deafening.
I love it, I miss it. They've since built some homes on that property and the whole area is built up a lot now.
If I were to live in Cali it would be Palm Springs or similar desert town. Bakersfield, maybe.
Coachella valley has lots of nice areas, hotter than F in the summer, but nice overall. Lots of money in places like Palm Springs or Indian Wells, That huge music festival "Coachella" is in Indio, which is the armpit of the area, but it's a huge expanse of open land.
There is a place called Desert Hot Springs that sits on top of natural hot aquafers that a lot of hotels capitalize on.
We used to go to Desert Hot Springs all the time. Nice hot natural mineral waters.
I'd live out there in a heartbeat but there's really no jobs out there, there isn't any real industry out that way, mostly just a service industry that caters to the retirees and whatnot.
Bakersfield, IDK, haven't been there, but the simple fact that's it's not LA is a huge plus for me and if I could earn a living I'd like to go there. The local economy there is in the toilet and there is a huge housing meltdown there. Lots and lots of foreclosures and other municipalities in the area have filed bankruptcy, lots of issues up there.
if you ever go there, have an economic stream in place, cause you aren't going to find anything there work wise.
I have a feeling the economy overall is in for a slowdown. Just kind of gauging by freight moving. Both types and amount.
