My sister, age 46, has never been in a romantic or sexual relationship- according to her. She has a job, a home, a set of friends and lives well. But never has been with a man or a woman in a romantic or sexual way. Is this more common than we would think? Do you know anyone like this?

Only if they are socially awkward, morbidly obese or very unattractive.
Yes, a cousin of mine who is in his early 50s now and still loves with his mom. He is slightly developmentally disabled, morbidly obese, etc. I don't think he's ever held meaningful work.
My friend's brother is like that. He has serious emotional issues. It is pretty hard to go through life and never have any kind of romantic relationship unless one has significant social or intimacy problems.
I've met a couple like that, socially awkward guys who are underemployed. Don't have a car and live in small 1 bedroom or studio apartments. Feel bad for one of them, at age 45 he has decided that he would like to date. But he doesn't have a car and lives off of disability, plus lives in a town where the dating pool is going to be shallow anyways.
