I get what you are saying now. What I will say about the social pressure is that there will always be people susceptible to it. The way I see it is that people who have conformed to social norms from their childhood onward into adulthood will have a hard time discovering their true self. If the social pressures could be curtailed it would create an environment where everyone can find their true desires and preferences and this would lead to a reduction in unhappy marriages, divorces, unwanted pregnancies, abortions and so on and so forth...all good for society, maybe not good for capitalism, economics, the military industrial complex and government sanctioned pyramid schemes but good for people nonetheless.
