I dated co-worker at my office a few years back, right after I first moved here. She pursued me, so I figured I'd give her a chance. She turned out to be weird and I caught her driving by my house several times when I wasn't answering the phone. Dealing with her at work was much more pleasant, as I didn't have to deal with her at all. She stopped working there not too long after that.
This proves my point. This woman was a stalker. I have dated women who have stalked me before, though thankfully I never worked with them. If I did have to work with them, there is a good chance they would have made my life miserable - and, there's no guarantee they would have left the job.
In a large company with lots of departments, it's actually fairly easy to date. If I were single, I could easily date someone at work and no one would ever know....even if they WERE in the same department.
The key is each person having discretion. Don't eat lunch together by yourselves, show up to work together, post your vacation pics on Facebook or get touchy-feely in the office. This applies primarily to situations where you're mostly in the FWB stage or just casually dating. If the relationship gets serious to the point of marriage being a consideration, then you may be more inclined to let the proverbial cat out of the bag.
I'm cool with most of my coworkers but it wouldn't be that difficult to keep an office relationship secret if both parties are really trying.
Work romance isn't that surprising. Frankly, you spend so much time with each other that it's natural to develop a bond with people that you work with each day.
