Unless it's for the tax or insurance bene's, I've never understood why you'd want to be married if you knew in advance you were poly. SO much easier to practice when single.

OTOH, if you only realized you were poly after you were married, then it fits...

I have several "groups" of friends that are poly (none married) and they've been together for many years, seemingly happily. More power to them!

I'm not sure how it started or works out for the people I mentioned (not close; I just happened to find out). They got married quite young and going strong. They're a very unusual combination even on the surface...

I dunno... I just wanted to rock the boat a little.

Today's "unusual" is very often tomorrow's "traditional"...

The swinging lifestyle is bigger now then ever in the past. The internet has opened up a lot of new ways for people to connect and couples are taking advantage.

I mean they're very different and one wouldn't think they're compatible at all...

The couple I knew years ago loved each other but felt sex was just recreation. They didn't attribute the emotion to it that most of us do. They didn't see others because of emotional atachments but for physical gratification. Their marriage, however, was emotional and sound. Swinging was just part of it. I'd be willing to bet they, excitedly, compared notes.

I never got it but it worked for them, well, untll the little oops happened. I wish I knew what happened after that.

Which reminds me of a funny story my doctor told me. He had a female patient come in who turned out to be pregnant. She told him that was impossible because her husband had had a vasectomy. Turns out they were swingers but it ended ok because the woman decided to keep the baby and raise it as if it were her own??? That's my doctor's definition of stupidity. Nothing to do with the topic but swinging reminded me of that story.

Although I respect the idea of open marriage and encourage others to do what they feel comfortable with, I personally get enraged at the mere thought of my man cheating much less being allowed to do so. Lets just say I could never do it! But more power to those who can and had success. I'd be on "Snapped" and thats an understatement!
