I'd never ever say that about a woman, even if I was totally joking. It would just sound so degrading to her, and there's always the risk of planting doubt in her mind about my feelings for her.
I think people get thier feelings hurt too easy. I'ts just a phrase. An idiom. No different than saying "hey. meet my old lady." Now that I think about it, women who are so thin skinned probably do feel like a ball and chain.
Notice how idiom is one letter off from idiot, lol.
Seeing as how this idiot has a Masters degree, speaks 5 languages and made $103,000 dollars last year,he's doing quite well for being one! But thanks Pug!
Hey guys, this is semi-serious, but mostly just because I want opinions from everybody, especially guys, since this is kinda about you
So. How would you feel if you were told by the person you cared about that you were their "Ball and Chain"? Like, if they said it in a casual way, but at the same time, serious.
would you shrug it off and think nothing of it? or would you take a step back and really analyze it, and think about it for a moment?
Opinions from ANYBODY would be wonderful!
i would take it as a joke, and if they said it again, tell them i didn't like being referred to as a ball and chain.
i wouldn't "analyze" it, like there was something to be learned from it -- i'd just say that i don't like the idea of it.
In the same vein, if my wife got saggy and old, i wouldn't call her my "saggy old wife", even if that was true.
I would nonchantly sashay my booty out the door. I don't answer to ball and chain, and if you feel like I am holding you back in any way then we don't need to be together.
Seriously. I'm not down with the degrading terminology. If you regard relationships as confining, don't be in one. Mod cut: Personal attack.
