I think because in a different way people tend to "lie" about their appearance and when it's the internet, it's even easier. Women will spend hours putting on makeup, trying to make eyes look bigger, wider, lips look fuller, combing hair different ways to make themselves look different. They try to find clothes that hide defects. Some will get plastic surgery - liposuction, implants. Men will sometimes wear boots that make them look taller.

I don't think that trying to look your best is lying. We all look better when we take a little time to dress, fix our hair or put on makeup than when we just roll out of bed and run out the door. I do both. Some days it's not pretty!

I think it's the outright lies that I can't understand. My brother is attempting to date after his divorce and he's mentioned how often this happens. I just didn't realize it was so widespread I guess. I don't understand the logic behind it. You are trying to date or form a relationship with another person so you lie about something as small as your appearance? How could you build any trust whatsoever after that?
