Seriously... I keep hearing this crap of "Nice guys finish last", where are they?
I'm about your age, and from the south, like you.
My advice is the 'nice guys' are probably all in church. I am told that this is also where the nice girls are.
In all seriousness, though, the way to meet cool people is to have cool friends yourself, and then go meet their friends. Sooner or later you will cross paths with a single guy who is looking for someone like you. I wouldn't worry so much about 'where to go' to find nice guys, it is really more about your social circles, and putting yourself in situations to have one-on-one conversations with compatible people.
I agree that if a guy's a pushover, he's at fault for letting himself get pushed around. Some people just don't like conflict so in the interest of keeping the peace, they let some people walk all over them. They eventually learn to stand up for themselves.
its a difficult thing to gauge, bek its relative, what is "getting pushed around" what is a young woman "asserting herself", what is "standing up for yourself", what is appropriate.
how many times i have seen a shirtless cuffed guy stuffed in the back of a black & white saying i was just standing up to her, she was yellin at me. proper degree of aggression, a big issue i think for both sexes. i kid you not i have seen a breakup where the gal jumped on the guy, i kid you not (guy handled it well i think, did not fight back a big guy).
