female social aggression among reproductively viable females is usually interpreted as a form of mate competition. Hess and Hagen, for example, suggest that the sex differences uncovered in their study would likely have been even more pronounced in a younger group of participants. Evolutionarily, historically and cross-culturally, they point out, girls in the fifteen- to nineteen-year-old range would be most actively competing for mates. Thus, anything that would sabotage another females’ image as a desirable reproductive partner, such as commenting on her promiscuity, physical appearance or some other aberrant or quirky traits, tends to be the stuff of virile gossip....

that is not true, they do not discriminate, its just that if the creature they encounter does not feed their need for flattery, romance, sex or money, well you know what happens next.
Stuffed if I know but I do know that if your study is correct that seemingly some women never expand or moderate their behaviour beyond their teenage years and the focus of their vitriol is simply transposed to other things once a mate has been secured.
I wonder why this urban legend is so popular among men. I haven't witnessed such behavior much in my life, if any...

Can I just ask? Do you ladies think that might be because neither of you impress me as the kind of people that would behave that way therefore it doesn't make your radar?
I only ask because this kind of girl thing is not something I've ever had much time for and I certainly am not particularly competetive about anything, (I'm more of a compete against myself person than being interested in competing against others) but over the years despite not really being a competitor I have come across women (and men) that do seem to view life that way and they will compete against you regardless if you yourself are competing or not.
This thread makes me think of how minorities might view the "evil" white man.
You almost think they'd pool their resources, so to speak.
Women should support each other.
I didn't read the whole thread but to me it seems like women are too busy fighting amongst themselves???
