Hiking; in Henry Coe St. Park..and the Pinnicles Nat. Mon. back home..both are MUST visits if you ever visit that part of CA. Enchanted rock in TX.. and anywhere in far Eastern KS..and of course, down in the Everglades or at places like Honey Moon Island here..
Last August some friends and i hiked to the top of the Pinnacles, watched the sunset, then hiked down by the light of the full moon. Amazingly beautiful, seeing those rock formations under the stars.
This thread reminds me of a study I heard about that said people who spend money more on experiences tend to be happier than those who spend money more on objects...interesting that most people's lists of what they love included more experiences, smells, sounds, tastes, activities, than things.

Ha this reminds me of a civil argument I had with someone recently. He was saying money could not buy happiness. I agreed - yes, money cannot directly buy happiness (hello, I'll take a year of happiness please! Oh, and could I have a corndog while you're at it?), but it can make happiness easier to obtain if you use the money in the right manner.
Money can buy possibility, freedom, and opportunity. While some of the greatest joys in life are free, others are not. But ultimately, money can buy time for a person to chase after what makes him/her happy - time that would have been spent working instead.
However, the people who believe that simply buying stuff is going to make them happy are kidding themselves. Stuff falls apart. Stuff loses its meaning. At the end of the day, stuff is just stuff. But memories. . . experiences. . . unforgettable moments. . . they are forever. (Unless you lose your memory. . . but that's another thread.)

We lived in Monterey, Prunedale area. Several times we explored the caves at 'Pinnacles' & picnic, beautiful. Picnic & hiked at Bolado Park, Fremont Peak, Casa De Fruta. Loved Mexican food at San Juan Bautista.
Fishin, campin' at Coyote Lake & San Luis Forebay, & concrete canals...
