Is it even possible? Is Cupid's arrow so swift?

I personally do not believe in love. I believe in respect, passion, lust, companionship, compromise, communication; all of this is built over time, and it makes a relationship stronger. Some might say that all of that combined is the definition of love, so if all of this is love, and it takes time to get to that point, how can love at first sight exist?

yout thoughts?

Fact! Keeping that love over time is the trick part.

But how do you know it is love, and not lust?

I didnt think "Wow! I want to f*ck the sh*t out of him" the first time I saw him. I've had that reaction to a guy before-that's lust. Its more of a "Wow! I have to get to know this guy immediately-someone introduce me".

Some people claim it has happened to them, and I can't really argue whether they felt something or not. I know a couple who were head over heels immediately in love, and they fight horribly, break up, get back together, fight, break up, and get back together. They "love" one another but that doesn't look like something I want. Other people claim to have fallen in love at first sight and live happily ever after. If that is the case, good for them. My love for my husband and his for me was not instantaneous, but it's solid and real so I don't think it matters how you get there.

huh... was it his appearance? his attitude? had you heard about him prior? I am just trying to understand how you made that distinction... considering when you first see a stranger, all you see is his physical appearance.

Walked into a party saw him from across the room talking to one of my friends. Watched his interactions, heard his conversations for a short period of time, then felt that I would be missing out if I did not initiate conversation and exchange numbers before the evening was over. Its was a guttural feeling/instinct.

I definitely agree with what you said about lust vs. love, and I have said as much in older threads. This is your brain ... this is your brain on sex, haha. If a relationship is based on good sex, there better be something else underneath it.

I do know that some people claim to have the "happily ever after" thing, but I don't know any personally so I can't vouch or deny that it happens.

Love is such a wishy-washy feeling, and there are different definitions of it. It seems to be just a feeling, or a strong affinity, or a sense of loyalty, or a strong care for a person. Infatuation at first sight, sure, but the kind of love that keeps people together for 50 years at first sight? I think I'm a skeptic too.
