I started on the Richard Dawkins book today between my yard work and housework. I think that the people who signed on to this thread will have to at least respect his intelligence. I am usually a fast reader but have I have to go a little slower to comprehend. I guess at my age the brain cells are getting a little dim

Angry Sept!

Amazon said Sept for my books, I guess because I ordered the paperback version, but I can't afford the hardback version, it's $26 for Dawkins book, & at my local book store is $27! The whole discussion will be over by the time my books arrive! Oh well, I'm sure I'll learn a lot from reading your discussions...

We're reading "IDHEFTBAA" first. That's "I don't have enough faith to be an atheist" so maybe you can cancel that order and just get this book first at the bookstore?

Winkie

I ordered a used Dawkins book, but it looks brand new, I can't tell it has been read. It was $13.48 from Amazon..Did you check the used ones some may even be cheaper than mine. I think I ordered mine on Tuesday and got them today.

I really wish I had time to participate in this reading. I love to read, but with my schedule, it looks like it is a no go.

Just want you guys to know that I will be following all the posts here, giving encouragement and will appoint myself your cheerleader and or coach if anyone needs prodding.

happy reading to all.

Well I just revamped my plan. I cancelled Amazon, re-ordered from Books-a-million for Geisler book & it's supposed to arrived w/i a week. Then I went to my online account of our local library & got on the waiting list for God Delusion. It is apparently a very popular book, all the copies in the county are checked out & I'm #13 in line. If it is not available by the time we start it I will take Blue's suggestion & order used from A.
that was a lot of work, I'm going to bed now!

Regarding my post earlier about where we came from faith wise:

I went to Christian school from K-6th grade where I learned all about Jesus but never saw examples of Him at home. To me Jesus was like a great story sort of like Santa, very nice but not true.

So I followed the way of the world. I always wanted to do "good" things but I never managed to find any people who wanted to do the right thing. So, it seemed like I had to relinquish all that to the "way it was" and cope with life the same way as everyone else did: I turned inward to myself.

When I turned 30 I was going through a very difficult time where my world as I knew it was crashing down all around me. I remember curling up in a ball on my bed...I couldn't even cry...and I finally stopped trying to handle everything myself and I turned to the "God of my youth". I remember saying "Lord, I haven't talked to you in a very long time" but as soon as I was done talking to Him I had such extreme peace...nothing like I've ever experienced before. I just KNEW it was going to be all right...and it was. There is so much more to the story, but that is the short version.

Can one of the mod's PM me regarding this thread? I would like to know if we can pin this thread at the top so that it is not buried between readings and also so that others can jump in at any time if they would like to either to comment or to start reading themselves.

Thanks!
