If I knew my wife wasn't home I'd probably call and leave a farewell message. I wouldn't want to talk to her in person, however, because I couldn't see the benefit of putting her through the pain of knowing my death was imminent. I've already told her not to expect a call if I'm in a terrorist attack, in a collapsed building, or something like that.
