OK, fair enough. From what I've seen, especially recently, nativity scenes are usually reserved for the front lawns of churches and such. I see VERY few private homes with nativity scenes displayed. Maybe that's just me.
Actually I've seen them in many parts of less religious states, like in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Rhode Island etc.
What I'm schocked is that I've seen few churches with nativity scene outside on their yard.
Remember just because Christian families don't put nativity scene at their yard doesn't mean they are not Christians or don't celebrate it.
Wonder what would happen if we requested the star on top of the tree be replaced with the Crescent and Star and the Christmas decorations on the tree be replaced with little lighted Menorahs?
Let's keep those little lighted Menorahs off the Christmas tree, OK?
DH & I have concluded Christians have their Christmas in honor of the birth of Christ and alternatively a "GIFT DAY" for those who are just enjoying the fun but not recognizing the birth of Christ.
For those who are not Christians its the same as embracing Kwanza if you aren't of the heritage.
Which municipalities display the nativity scene along with Christmas trees in front of city halls?
No American governmental body should display the nativity scene on their property, because to so would violate the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America. The very fact that they DO display Christmas Trees clearly puts the lie to your next statement, which is:

Lucy, it is clear that you don't even understand the impact of your own Status Statement, where you wrote: "Everyone has their own belief, please respect it."
That applies to you as well, you know. By your own words, you should respect the beliefs of others just as much as you want them to respect your beliefs. If you don't, your statement becomes hypocrisy -- which then makes you a hypocrite.

::Sigh:: It is a holiday, period. IF you celebrate it . . . YOU determine WHAT YOU are celebrating and WHY . . . no one else! IT is such a wonderful time of the year . . . why spoil it for yourself or anyone else? Just enjoy the festive atmosphere and the heightened mood of those around you. It is our favorite time of the entire year and we begin to enjoy it starting on Thanksgiving Day . . . it lasts until New Year's Day for us. Just share and spread joy wherever and however you can. That is what holidays are for.
I would assume that a chreche with Jesus, Mary, and Joseph has no parallel in the ancient roman celebration of Saturnalia. As one example.
There are some ancient Egyptian traditions that tie into the concept, albeit not as strongly. Although the concept of the three wise men who came and brought their gifts were derived from older myths which focused on the coming of Osiris being foretold by three kings / wise men (represented by the three stars in Orion's belt).
