I consider myself devout, and pray every day for the health and safety of my family and me, and I always have believed my prayers were answered.
If, indeed, Whitney Houston was as devout as she seemed, then how could she throw her life away like she did?
I have heard that the central support in Alcohol and Drug Support groups is a belief in a higher power.
I guess what I am getting at is, if Whitney Houston, with her religion ingrained from birth, plus a once in a lifetime talent, cannot manage a successful life, then is there any hope for any of us?

She made a choice to follw the ways of the world. She chose to do drugs. She was not devout. She was raised in church, but that doesn't mean much. One must choose God.

Being in relationship with God thru Christ is what cuts it. Not being raised in Church. With that said I feel sad for Whitney and her choices.

Devot does not abuse themselves their family and especially their child. The only thing she was a devot to was herself and drugs

I wouldn't call someone carousing in bars and nightclubs as being devout. I consider devout as someone who tries to abstain from any kind of appearances of evil. That doesn't mean that she isn't in heaven right now with God, just that she wasn't being devout on her beliefs while on earth.

She hardly treated her body as a temple or a gift from god.

Lip service about being devout. It applies to most people.

When I prayed for Whitney Houston after she pass , the Lord Spirit cleaned the road that she was on before she passed on , and said ``Her passing away a mistake , she never got all her days in the earth ``.... There seem to be the lack of faith for the Lord to stop her passing on for the Lord to move , so she is gone at an early age of some 48 years old....

I am actually appalled at the responses on this thread by religious people. I have an immense amount of sympathy for Whitney Houston and any person who has derailed their life through drugs and/or alcohol. Belief in God does not make you immune. I don't know Whitney Houston's story. None of you do either. It's not for you to be so judgmental, or so your faith would teach you.

If what one means is she started as devout, daughter of a gospel singer who sung at a church herself, that might be more accurate. Although we can't really look into her mind, or anyone's I suppose, to know what her relationship with God was at any given point. I've known of addicts who really become intensely religious, but still can't get over the addiction. It becomes overwhelming and uncontrollable for them.

Still being Christian doesn't, to me, necessarily mean all problems or temptations are over. I knew a monk I liked who, while a monk, became an alcoholic. He apparently demanded a great deal on himself and alcohol became a way to deal with that stress. I'm not saying that's relevant for her at all. (Although maybe it is, much was once expected of her or her image, so I don't know) Why people become addicts varies and I don't know the reason for certain in her case.

Interestingly I recently re-watched that Diane Sawyer interview from way back when and it says some of her brothers, I think it was, had drug problems. So maybe it's partly genetic, maybe something like "addictive personalities" just run in that family. Or maybe it was the world she was in and who surrounded her. Or maybe it was some deep emotional problem. So I admit speculation enters my mind too, but it's maybe ultimately pointless.

Of course there is hope for everyone. Whitney Houston had some dark times in he life. Maybe her life came to and end on a negative note. That doesn't mean she didn't have positive moments in her life as well.

We all have our challenges. We can't always explain the "why's" of life wheter we are devout, or without religion. Just because a person when through some bad stuff doesn't mean there is absolutely no grace in their life.

We all choose what we focus on.

When you pray and have people pray for you. Do you just sit idly by and wait for the prayers to do the trick, or do you take action and do what YOU can to make things turn out as well as possible?

I'm pretty sure most religions don't advocate that we sit on our buts and pray and expect things to be allright. I believe we are supposed to also DO something, in addition to our prayers.

Why would what happened to Whitney Houston make a difference in our lives one way or another?

So because Whitney Houston didn't get life right in your eyes, we're all screwed.
