The USA does not need God, it needs a new outlook on life regarding civil rights and politics. With your OWS and TEA party activities, you have albeit a skewed way the uprising of folk demanding something different.

Guess what? Pre 1994, SA sounded just like it too. Then we came to our senses and formulated a brand new constitution and 17 years later we are still here with God out of politics. The two hot issues in the US, abortion and gay marriage; here abortion is available to 20 weeks no questions asked, no counselling and the gays can marry, they do not have to be married in a church and churches are not obliged to marry them. 17 years later, the sky did not fall and in fact we starting to see progress albeit a bit late and a bit slow. We were all affected by the world economic collapse thanks mainly in part to the US and the American Dream™ (house in the burbs, 2.5 kids and employment) Yup our version of that dream was also shattered and we still have not recovered.

The US is just behind the bell curve as you lot had your economy falsely propped up when most others started feeling the pinch earlier.

What you are experiencing, other have already been through and are still living it.

We get hit by another cyclone today and this is the second this summer season. This is unusual as this hardly ever happens. Changing weather patterns due to climate change, nothing to do with imaginary gods.

Where the US is today, your parents and some of you voted into power and only once you realise that which you have no longer works or is relevant, can change happen. No point blaming the current administration as BO walked into a crapstorm.

Yet in this day and age, the uber religious right think prayer in schools, addressing abortion and the gay will fix what is obviously broken for other reasons. Your politicians have you exactly where they want you, arguing about non issues while their corruption goes largely unchecked.

Our "godless" politicians are constantly being exposed and entrapped by sting operations for their corruption so much so that they have tried to enact a secrecy act usually found in govt. at times of war. It will probably be overturned by the constitutional court. When you politicians are accountable for their deeds, then perhaps they will serve your best interests. No one should be above the law.
As a nation, yes we're a little spoiled. We do tend to take our freedoms for granted.

We need to wake up and realize that we created a lot of this mess ourselves. We also need to stand up to the politicians we elected and say "enough!". They seem to have forgotten that they work for us and what they do should be in the best interest of the people.

All in all, it's still a great country and i'm damn proud to be an American. Our problems are only temporary and with hard work, fixable.

This sounds like America. Arrogant, overfed, and unconcerned describes this country to a tee. This nation continues to show its arrogance abroad as it tries to impose its will and sins on other nations, and at home as we think we are too mighty to fall. America by and large has decided it no longer needs God. The collapse is coming and most people have their head stuck in the sand. As for overfed, look at the obesity problems in this country. Unconcerned - Americans are for the most part unconcerned about their fellow men. They are selfish and its all about the bottom dollar. Liberals say we should counter this with more government programs, but real change starts with the people.

Liberals say Sodom wasn't destroyed because of homosexuality. That may be true, but that doesn't let America off the hook.
I'm pretty sure you know where the door is. If you don't like it here, fine.

I challenge you to find a better place to be than America.

The homosexuality is found in all countries, not only in America.
The adultery is in all countries, as is the atheism and the enthusiasm and the idolatry.
Freedom is good.

But if a indecency is recognized and see as a virtue -- this is the danger.

Freedom is good, and excellent; but to give lawful recognition of such homosexual acts -- this is the serious thing.

Lot's people recognized such homosexuality and considered it a virtue, and even tried to transgress on Lot and his guest (who were the angels sent for their destruction.)

The people of Sodom used to transgress on the males: the strangers who by chance came to their city.

So people started to avoid this city and its sister cities : Ghomorrha ..etc.

So when God punished them: only the family of Lot were chaste and pure.

To prove Lot's people committed the homosexuality, we should know that the homosexuality is called the Sodomy in relation to their city of Sodom.

Worry about your own little corner of the world.

Thanks for all the "concern", but I think we'll survive just fine without it.

Eanassir,
I don't agree with everything you've said, but I do believe that we are punished by our sins (harmful acts) not for them.
We don't need a volcano or firey lightening. Natural consequences teach us, eventually.
According to the US CDC, those with homosexual preferences get STDs and AIDS more often than heterosexuals. According to medical facts, anal sex presents health risks of anal fissures, bacterial infection, anal cancer & colon rupture.
Others' rights are being infringed upon where gay marriage has been legalized. Children (our future society) lose out because when adopted by gay couples, they are denied the right of the 2 opposite genders who created them, dishonoring mothers and fathers.

It seems you're concerned that the natural consequences have to get worse before anyone learns. Maybe.

America's government has failed us... & maybe we've been part of that by being too casual politically. Government leaders have gotten us into incredible debt and have implemented horrendous laws like abortion - making it legal to kill children/developing human beings by ripping them apart limb by limb. International trade laws have hurt many people - even killing them by starvation. These problems are not unique to America but that doesn't mean we should ignore them.

America is a wonderful nation - founded on many principles of freedom and potential. I hope we don't blow it.

It is part of the truth is the punishment by the sin itself; but the other sorts of punishment are true.

God punished the past (and present) nations according to their enthusiasm about men and idols, and according to their transgression and wronging people.

This will lead to the troubles in sea and land.

(Corruption has appeared in the land [like earthquakes, volcanoes, and epidemics] and sea [like floods and hurricanes],

because of [the work] that the hands of people have earned;

so that He may let them taste [the punishment of] some of their deeds;

that they may desist [from their wickedness.])

The above between brackets is the explanation of the Quran 30: 41

I don't excempt the Muslim countries from such punishment:

And according to the enthusiasm of Muslims about their imams and companions of the prophet, and because they wrong each other --> God set on them other people who occupied their countries and abased them ..

this will last until they devote themselves to God alone.
When they will rise and their enemy will decline.

I don't completely understand how what some call Karma or "what comes around goes around" works...
Yet, it makes sense that with every action... is a reaction and that when we hurt ourselves we HURT!
And since we are all connected, not just in the cycles of life, but also spiritually. So when we hurt another human being, we hurt humanity... we hurt ourselves. When we love another human being, we love humanity... we love ourselves.

One Islamic teaching I resonate with is the idea that we often only see part of the whole & the whole (reality) is both visible and invisible.
