i am asking because some people decide that there can't be a god when bad things happen. can someone elaborate either pro or con? i don't even know if there is a god but if there is then why do we think god is all about good and love and get upset with god (if there is a god) when bad things happen.
why/how have we all been conditioned to think that god is all about good things? i am just looking for feedback as to how this (our ideas about god=good) happened.
...i would assume he lets bad things happen so "good" things can happen..for if there were not bad things...good things would just be things..what is good and bad anyways..its completely subjective
I think all theist will attribute good things to their god and bad things to Satan or man. In doing so they fail to consider that there god (allegedly) is the creator of everything and as such he also created evil. The "free will" argument is void in the light of the alleged omniscience of the Christian god.
Their argument that god has nothing to do with evil things is blown apart by Isaiah 45:7
"I form the light and I create darkness: I make peace and CREATE EVIL. I, the lord do all these things."
Those who suffer in this life are in a position to live much better when our time here is done. Its a matter of how we react to it, how much compassion we show for our fellow human beings, whether we allow suffering to make us bitter, etc.

I think what the OP was getting at, is exactly the opposite of what you posted. I think to better understand this, if I swap the words good and bad in your reply, I think it better states what the OP was getting at.

yes it goes both ways...i was just sayin with out one there woudn't be the other...and yet the question was about why god lets bad things happen..and the op aproved of my answer...:P

if i put my head down ignore the red light cross the street an a car hits me
did god strike me down?
did god cause 911? we knew about the plot before it happened it was disregarded. cut god some slack he did not do it.

this is why i originally asked the question because in a couple of posts before mine someone was talking about viewing the 911 site/memorial and now not believing in god so it got me thinking.
I suspect that we, as human beings, allow bad things to happen, independent of any god...
Take gentle care.
