i just read someone saying that he thinks there are more bad people (in the world) than good. i think there are more good people than bad. does this difference in attitude have anything to do with the whole half-full, half-empty glass thing or am i totally off? does religion or belief have anything to do with one's perspective on this? i would like to know your thoughts on this.
A glas that is 1/2 empty is 1/2 full.
When you are saying that such a glass is 1/2 full because you consider yourself optimistic is not being realistic, only idealistic. Unfortunately most religions only view reality the way they think it should be, instead of how it really is. Fact is that the majority of the people are poor and only those in the 1st world really profit from the 3rd world being poor.
So yeah, there are more bad people than good, because we (the rich) keep allowing this to happen.

i enjoy your way of thinking so much. i surely dont want to become an idealist as my mother is one! being one of those (though their intent is good) seems bordering on naive.
There are none righteous no not one.Thank goodness that we have a Saviour in Jesus Christ because we are all sinners and only by His grace are we saved that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
It's such a subjective thing anyway, but I'd say that almost everyone has the potential to be both "good" and "evil," depending on what situation they're put in.
Sometimes I'm tempted to take a sort of amoral stance and say we're really all just animals. With this ability to reason, we convince ourselves what's good and bad and act (or don't act) accordingly. But it means something different to every person--no real objective good and evil to go by.
I think there are clearly far many more good people than bad although the word "good" leaves alot of room for interpretation. I suppose you could create a scale of so called bad people based on their behavior. The really bad people who commit violent crimes only make up a small percentage of the population but it requires alot of money and resources in the form of law enforcement, courts and prisons to keep them in check. At the other end of the scale you'd find people who are selfish, deceitful, manipulative or have some other unpleasant quality that makes the rest of us want to avoid them (yes, I'm putting myself into the good category). When I look at all of the people I've come into contact with in my life the overwhelming majority of them have more good qualities than bad.
