It’s interesting reading the estimates scholars back in ancient India used to determine how old life on the earth was by studying the changes in sun and moon positions over time and across seasons. Their final conclusion was that the life on earth was 432 million years old. A far better estimate than most cultures during ancient times. This actually matches up very well with when the Cambrian explosion of complex life forms occurred. Very interesting stuff .

Very interesting... let me check. 432 million...hang on I misread that..
39-4100 million years ago is the definite evidence of organic life but circumstantial evidence suggests far earlier.
440 Ma First agnathan fishes: Heterostraci, Galeaspida, and Pituriaspida
420 Ma Earliest ray-finned fishes, trigonotarbid arachnids, and land scorpions[wiki]
This is where the 432 million date will fall in the cambrian. What again is it the start of? Life on earth...well it beats 8,000 years by a sea -mile.

Hinduism values respect for elderly greatly. We do namaskaram to our grandparents before leaving and they grant well wishes for the journey ahead. It’s always been a core part of my culture.
The Ramayana is quite possibly the best story ever written in human history.
Everybody should read it.
After I had been to Thailand several summers, one of our English teachers (I was principal) asked me if I had come across any folk tales...something she enjoyed teaching. I mentioned the Ramakien (as the Thais call the Ramayana) and she asked me if I could come into her classes and teach it. So I prepared some stuff and spent a period telling the basic story. We happened to have a pretty diverse school, with quite a few Southeast Asian kids from different countries (many due to embassy workers). I think it was 3 different kids from different SE Asian countries said I had it wrong, while the Thai kid said I had it right. And it boiled to the same story in all 4 countries, but which country the good guy and bad guy were from changed from country to country who the good guys and bad guys were. For example, the Thais were the good guys in Thailand, and the bad guys were the Burmese. For the kid from Burma, it was just the opposite, of course.
But you're right..it's a delightful story and it produces such fine art.
