I don't think it is necessary for salvation. I have never said that. I think that if you do reject the history of Genesis then you have to reject many of the things said by Jesus Christ who believed that the events of Genesis were real history. So, if you reject some of what Christ says then where do you draw the line. It is through Christ we receive our salvation, and if we call him a liar, then what do we say of the Cross?
So, a person can reject Genesis but then they would have a contorted view of Christ and salvation through him.
If Genesis is false why do we need to be saved at all? And from what?
Exactly my point! We don't and from nothing. We are responsible for our actions and we will suffer or enjoy whatever those actions bring out. Christianity is based on guilt and fear and I cannot believe that. I've tried. I am not an atheist, but Christianity is scary. Such control issues.
Vatican says Darwin's theory of evolution is compatible with the Bible, whose creation story is interpreted as an allegory. The Anglican Church had recently decided that it needed to apologize for its treatment of Darwin's scientific work.

OH well what a great bit of news, the man in the fish hat says that a REAL SCIENTIFIC theory is OK with his little screwy myth book.

There is nothing to be saved from and anyone who cant see the bible is full silly myth that cant not be real, needs glasses. Or a smack in the head.
The church should not offer any apology to Charles Darwin. Shows how weak kneed and lilly livered the church - liveral side - are. What do they believe? Its astonishing that they cannot stand up stand up for Jesus. Where are the Soldiers of The Cross? Why are they retreating these Archbishops and Bishops? Stand on what you believe or don't believe at all. Charles Darwin came up with the biggest fairy tale of all - the church should not apologise for standing up against the nonsense he taught.
