"Christmas" is only about commercial retail trying to make you spend your money.

"Christmas" is a stolen holiday from the Pagans.

Jesus Christs birthday was NEVER SCIENTIFICALLY proven to be December 25th! If it is Jesus Christs birthday, why do we give gifts to each other? Why not just donate to the Church or charity?

"Christmas" is a chance for most of the all the extreme disrespectful Christians to force "Merry Christmas" down others throats. Also, they want to fight this imaginary "War on "Christmas".

Why is everything shut down for "Christmas" but not for all the other religious holidays? Why did I not get time and a half or a day off for a Holiday I observe?

"Christmas" should not be recognized by the government and everything should not be shut down. It is just another religious holiday and should be treated like all the others. Not anymore special.

Happy Holidays, even to people who celebrate "Christmas". I am not against people who celebrate "Christmas". Just the treatment it gets and how some Christians get if people dare to think about saying 'Happy Holidays'.

We give gifts to symbolize the gift that was given to us.

As to the timing of Christ's birth, no one knows for sure when it was so it doesn't matter when we celebrate it. The dead of winter when we need cheering up is a good a time as any.

Why do retailers shut down on the holiday? Same reason the school system I'm in shuts down for Islamic holidays. Not enough people would be coming to bother.

Look at the December calender. Within a week of each other is the first day of winter, Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa. Then it is closely followed by New Years Day. As to why you did not receive time and a half from work for your holiday, that depends on your company. We all have holidays we wish to not work on but are not paid time and a half when forced to do so. Suck it up. Do what some of us use to do. If you choose not to celebrate Christmas then volunteer to take someone's place at work so they can go home to be with their family. You will have done a good deed for a fellow co-worker and you'll get holiday pay at the same time. So nothing is open for one day. Big deal. I grew up when everything was closed on Sunday, every Sunday of the year and everything was closed after 9pm every night. I agree that Christmas has become too commercialized. Until I got married I did not buy into the commercialism. I bought gifts for my sister's kids and something for my parents and that was all. No decorations and no mad dash rush to the stores. My wife loves to decorate for holidays. It doesn't hurt me for her to decorate and be happy. I'm just glad she didn't get out that dancing snowman again this year. I enjoy going to church for Christmas and Easter but because of my rotating shifts I can't always do this anymore.

Don't you dare tell me to suck it up when a MAJOR religious holiday of mine comes up and I do not get paid time and a half or get a day off when these Christians do.

In America, which is a "free" country, everyone is supposed to be equal.

I cannot volunteer to take over someone elses shift because my work place closes for "Christmas" and it should not.

"Christmas" is not anymore special than any other holiday. So why is it held in high regard and everything shuts down?

I think if you are not christian you can still enjoy the holiday. How much of it really is to do with Christs birth anyway? If you are religious you can find that meaning in it but if you are not, or follow a different belief system then surely you can just make it a fun day. A day to relax with your family or the people that you love and enjoy each others company, some good food and maybe a drink or two if you're so inclined. My family had a great day yesterday (it's boxing day now here) we had sports and amusements set up in the back yard, plenty of food and drink and we just had fun. None of us are religious, but why not take advantage of the holiday if it is there.

Whah, whah, whah, whah . . . So glad I missed this whine until after Christmas. Why should the government recognize ANY holidays or special days. Let's abolish Secretary's Day . . . or Labor Day . . . or Veteran's Day . . . or Memorial Day . . . or New Year's Day or . . . Get a life, LiteralVoice.
