I agree, it is toe-curlingly crass and ego-centric to hear some fellow human beings praising God for 'looking out for them' whilst others have perished. I could throw my walking boot at the TV when I hear such blatherings.
I'm not sure at all that He intervened in the drama of the plane that landed safely. Lucky is the word that comes to mind.
But I'm with Freedom and ILNC, He was there, like He is always there, amongst His creation.
If there was a God, he would have gone out and make a speech (or some kind of communication) to his followers every time a hard-to-believe event happens, wouldn't he?
Because now, non-believers are saying that it's just one more proof he does not exist, and believers can not believe things just happened and try to defend their beliefs.
Human error, equipment failure, weather ? I believe one of these caused the plane crash...not God..I don't think he is "up there" or here manipulating and pulling strings like some mad puppeteer..Someone said we are masters of our own fate and I pretty much believe that and sometimes other people, lots of people suffer or die because of that....BUT, I believe that God was with these people to take the fear and pain from them by gently lifting their spirits to Him..even the nonbelievers..

My particular belief is that we choose our life and path. I feel that this was their then and now, and yes it all does end at some point. My heart goes out to all the friends and families.
My opinion too. We all have lessons we need to learn and our general life path is designed by ourselves along with others we'll end up interacting with in our earthly lives to help each other accomplish our goals.
There are few if any hard and fixed events in our lives as we have free will to be human and live our own lives as we see fit in the here and now.
Back to the plane crash....of course it's silly to give god credit for the Hudson landing and at the same time not "blame" god for the Buffalo crash. But, that is how a large segment of the population sees it....even though it makes no sense.
The crash might serve a larger purpose down the road....or it may just be that there was some "bad energy" on the plane....who knows. The only thing I know is that god didn't cause this crash...and he didn't prevent the Hudson crash.
As humans we have way more control over our circumstances than we realize usually. We are NOT pawns of some controlling "god". We are given lots of rope to go any direction in our lives we want to. Sometimes if we're stumble way off track and are hurting people in some way we end up creating out own "bad luck". If we're on track and living a good life, helping others when we can, taking care of our families and loving those we come into contact with we may find out we're creating our own "luck" in life when good things happen.
To some degree it's a mystery of why things happen as they do....but if we knew all the events that were to happen in our life before they happen we wouldn't learn our lessons very well.
"As soon as you're born you're dying"....so goes an Iron Maiden song..
The day that you're brought upon this earth - the hour and manner of your death has already been pre-determined.
