I think the so-called pagan religions are one step closer to reality than the 'advanced' and 'monotheistic' religions, in that at least their gods are based upon real natural phenomena such as the sun, moon, wind, etc., rather than incredible magical stories.
In any religion, it's impossible to have a loving-figure God. There is a basic logical reason for it: religion needs religious codes, and religious codes can not possibly be enforced with a loving-figure. Tyrannic figure God was the original human creation of God: a temperamental ruthless figure made in the image of a King, an Emperor ...
Oh, what a wonderful idea! I'm just yearning to go back to the good old days when we attributed thunder and lightning to the activities of the gods. Sacrificing virgins so we'd get a better harvest was another beautiful tradition that's been lost. It's a damn shame!
Actually, I think the citizens need to let the church die a quiet death.
Lots of luck with that. As long as it's legal to brainwash infants and small children folks will continue to speak to the invisible man in the sky. I've decided to stay away from their gatherings and one can only hope that our laws will keep them from displaying their BS in public places.
I'm seventy five years old and I've seen and heard enough of it.

I'm not aware of any laws that require parents to teach their children about God. So, godless atheist parents who are devout in their disbelief would also logically qualify for your infant and small children brainwashing charge .
You've obviously lost your faith in organized religion Melvin, even in God and Jesus Christ. Sad in my opinion, but I'm curious to know if at your advanced age you have also adopted the atheist hope that there is no life/consciousness/awareness after the death of the physical body? Is that the hope that you cling to now that you've rejected your Redeemer and Heavenly Parent?

I know your question wasn't directed to me but I just wanted to point out that the atheists who I know personally don't try to force their lack of belief on their children but rather teach them to think for themselves. I don't have any children but if I did I would never try to turn them into a carbon copy of myself in terms of my atheism.
Tried to rep you, MontanaGuy, but I couldn't. I agree with you, in any case. It is much more lastingly effective to teach one's children how to think rationally than to insist that they become atheists. It helps in other areas of life as well. No child, once he/she reaches a certain age, wants to be a 'carbon copy'.
