Well I guess all Baptist are hypocrites too then because I knew a man once who went to a Baptist church that actually taught that mormons were not Christian.

Mormons have been saying that about christians for years. Tell a bishop that you are a christian and he will say "well, there are good things in all religions but the mormon church is the only true church on the earth today." Kinda leaves a bad taste in your mouth after hearing that. This debate will last till His kingdom comes.

To me, that's like saying it's okay to be a pimp since you're not the one actually doing the prostitution.
Would that be all Mormons? I'd have a big problem owning stock in cigarette companies.

When I lived in SLC, I had heard that they also had large vested interests with casinos in Vegas. I understood that they tried to instill a family type atmosphere in some of them but that it went over like a lead balloon. I do know that they have an enormous amount of financial investment interests all over the world which generate a huge cash flow for them. I guess that's why they are considered a corporation.

So with this all being said, Why does everyone hate the Mormon's??
There really is alot of prejudice against the Mormons and I've heard people make all kinds of comments. There's alot of religions who like to bash each other so it's not that uncommon but I agree that Mormons get more than their share. I think it's probably because it's relatively new (a couple hundred years or so) and also because it's quite a bit different from other Christian denominations because it teaches an idea that Joseph Smith was a prophet from modern times in America in the 1800's. This is probably seen as a very drastic departure from Christian traditions by a great many people. Still, I have several Mormon friends who are deeply involved in their religion and I think they have as much right to practice their beliefs as anyone else.

No ... The LDS church does have substantial holdings -- ranches, media, insurance, and food businesses among others. But no casinos. The whole Vegas family atmosphere initiative was led by the casinos to try to lure a new demographic. I don't think it went over that well, thus the current "what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas" theme.

What does “I left the church and got saved even mean”? “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Rom. 10:9–10). First, all mortals have been saved from the permanence of death through the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive” (1 Cor. 15:22). Many Bible verses declare that Jesus came to take away the sins of the world (e.g., John 1:29; Matt. 26:28). The New Testament frequently refers to the grace of God and to salvation by grace (e.g., John 1:17; Acts 15:11; Eph. 2:8). But it also has many specific commandments on personal behavior and many references to the importance of works (e.g., Matt. 5:16; Eph. 2:10; James 2:14–17). In addition, the Savior taught that we must endure to the end in order to be saved (see Matt. 10:22; Mark 13:13). Relying upon the totality of Bible teachings and upon clarifications received through modern revelation, we testify that being cleansed from sin through Christ’s Atonement is conditioned upon the individual sinner’s faith, which must be manifested by obedience to the Lord’s command to repent, be baptized, and receive the Holy Ghost (see Acts 2:37–38). “Verily, verily, I say unto thee,” Jesus taught, “Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God” (John 3:5; see also Mark 16:16; Acts 2:37–38). Believers who have had this required rebirth at the hands of those having authority have already been saved from sin conditionally, but they will not be saved finally until they have completed their mortal probation with the required continuing repentance, faithfulness, service, and enduring to the end. The question of whether a person has been saved is sometimes phrased in terms of whether that person has been “born again.” Being “born again” is a familiar reference in the Bible and the Book of Mormon. As noted earlier, Jesus taught that except a man was “born again” (John 3:3), of water and of the Spirit, he could not enter into the kingdom of God (see John 3:5). The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints offers all of the children of God the opportunity to learn the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ as restored in these latter days. We offer everyone the privilege of receiving all of the ordinances of salvation and exaltation. So please be careful when you suggest Mormon’s are not “Saved”!!

Default Investments

There are very likely many Mormons who own tobacco and alcohol stocks. One of the most popular investment vehicles are mutual funds. Such funds are diversified and include a wide variety of common stocks, including tobacco. An individual can buy into a mutual fund at one point and not find any “offensive” stocks, but later on, the fund manager may buy such stocks to balance the fund and increase its performance.

The entire issue of Mormons owning this stock or that stock is just another example of the incredible level of unjustified and malicious finger pointing directed at the Church. Unless the NYSE has added a religion category, there is no way anyone can know how LDS members invest, so in short, claims that Latter Day Saints are hypocrites because they invest in gamming, tobacco, alcohol, and Coke are pure scatology.

Well, sadly it means that this person has a very low opinion of Mormons and their beliefs and is saying that he or she was lucky enough to get out and be saved. It unfortunately means that your original question has been answered by at least one individual and it's being suggested that if you are a Mormon you will not be saved. This is very typical of the rivalries between religous groups and it's a sad commentary on the state of religion in America. You probably know I'm not religious but I don't like to see people be insulted because of what they believe.
