Chexsytems, credit, whatever. It means you are on someones deadbeat list.

Location is not irrelevant to me. In my area, if you dont have a localish account, you have the potential of being transient, not staying the length of your lease, and cant seem to get your act together. I had one tenant who moved down from orlando, had the excuse that he had to mail his paycheck to his credit union in orlando as the reason his rent was late. Not that he could not have cashed his paycheck locally and given me a money oorder or anything. Its usually part of a.long list of reasons the rent is late. Its been such a trend its something i look out for. I did not say it was a deal breaker but its something that bears closer examination for me.

At this point i am looking at having to bear the cost of an additional bank account for a tenant to deposit funds.

I use to require bank account numbers before the words"identity theft" were popular.
Now all I require is employment, and present rental varification.
I tell perspective tenants to submit a current credit report, with a current credit score, along with their application.
If people have questionable credit, they won't pay for a credit report that they know may get them turned down on a rental application.
Bob.

I recently applied at two senior apartment complexes that seem quite reputable based on the premises.

Both of them wanted all my account numbers and six months worth of pay stubs.

I also had to sign a form giving them permission to verify my income.

Is it normal for all large apartment complexes to ask for so much personal information ?

I was reluctant to give out so much private information, but I do not want to be stuck again with noisy neighbors and rogue owners, so I think senior apartments cut down on this possiblity and I liked the atmosphere.

If I do not give up this info, I will not be considered as a tenent.

I am just wondering if giving up all this info is standard procedure.

Yes, many senior apartments are income based, so they will have to verify your income. Either they are low income, or else rent is based upon your income. Even if rents are not based in income, you will have to prove that you are capable of paying the rent.

If you want that unit, you will have to provide the information. The other option is to look for a place to rent where financial information is not required, and then you risk having a bunch of neighbors who are deadbeats or felons. Where landlords don't check before renting, you are going to living next to the dregs who can't rent elsewhere.

When you apply to rent a place the owner is extending you credit.

It could take a long time to get a dead beat out of a property, and they could also do a lot of damage.

Very few places will loan you money on the hope you pay your bills..in fact many people do not pay their bills.

This is of course wrong. Rent is paid in advance, no credit is being extended.
