I often see on social media people hating on landlords and never really understood that. Nobody is stopping someone from buying a home. You either can't afford to buy, don't want to buy or are too lazy to buy, either way the landlord is providing you a home which you have to pay for.
It just seems like such a simple concept and I don't understand the hate. If you're unhappy with your specific landlord then move somewhere else.
It seems to me that many people move from parents to rentals and they never move their minds from a parental relationship. Their parent didn't make them clean up, didn't make them pay rent, didn't complain about late or no payment or about noise and destruction. They moved away from free housing and can't understand why the landlord doesn't owe them free housing instead oft taking so much of the paycheck that they have worked so hard for.
Plus they move away from home thinking they can do anything they want because they are suddenly "free". They resent it that they were so wrong about moving out and no one can tell them what to do any more.
People pay huge amounts of money for electronics, cars, restaurants and you never hear them going on with resentment about the greedy cell phone company or the greedy car dealer.

You kidding me? People complain about car dealers all of the time, same with phone companies for the longest time, it is only recently that people pretty much stopped complaining about them, yea, I remember the dollar a minute calls, lol.
There are landlords on City-Data complaining about tenants, enough to offset tenants complaining about landlords.
Except it rarely works like that in the media or politically ….it all depends who outnumbered who…
Here in ny , the state is anti landlord for sure
Many Renters don’t perceive landlords as doing this to earn a living ….they think because it is passive many times that it isn’t part of the money they live on or landlords are all filthy rich.
