A lot of our motivations are deeply buried...especially what seem to be some of the more bizarre and unproductive ones in adult life. Indeed, I do think many people spend a lifetime "getting even" with parents, but I doubt that there is much (any?) insight with them that this is what is going on.
Thanks for posting...I agree with what you wrote. Most people do lack awareness about why they are unhappy or miserable or angry etc.........They is a "sad state of affairs" for the rest of us and the world because we all share the "same space" and "touch" each other's lives

Thank you so much. We have about 1200 people in our town, and lots of places to dance. Every Wednesday, our newspaper lists where local bands are playing (within a 7-8 mile radius) and there are many places to go every Thursday through Saturday nights.

Great that you have so many places to dance in your area....My husband and I love to dance too....Wish we lived closer so we could all go out dancing together....We'd have fun. Don't you think?

Yes, that would be fun!
We love doing lots of things, but avoid the "eating club" type event, every week/month or other. Don't get me wrong, we like to eat out. But we do not take part in regularly scheduled events/meetings with a big meal as the main focus. At my age, it packs on fast and we just don't schedule eating appointments with groups. At least, all the dancing helps work off a few calories. But, that's another whole subject
Wish we weren't so far apart, CArizona!

Thanks for writing....I'm not big on group eating events either.....Well I do like to go to casual pot-lucks once in awhile. How about you?

We have pot lucks in our town, along with so many other activities.
Tonight we had a great dinner out...on the Bay, with a neighboring couple, which we do often. But I would never join a club or group, just to eat! But, to each his own.
Bette, 20yrs, kevxu, AZDesert and others.....anything to add?

I have a friend in another state who has lived alone for decades and her kids live far away from her...She eats meals all by herself day after day...Her club functions give her a chance to share meals with other people and these social interactions mean a lot to her...I guess it's different when we live totally alone with no family closeby....Do you think we should start a new thread about this topic? What should we title it? Thanks...

Most definitely, club functions are a great help to lonely people and those who have no friends or family closeby. I'm sure cooking would be un-interesting, also, for one. My heart goes out to her. Yes, a thread all to itself might be helpful to those like her. ??? the title ????

Thanks for writing...I still haven't come up with a title for the new thread...Should it be about "social clubs?" I know that a lot of people spend time at their local senior center and eat meals there too....My friend doesn't have an actual senior center building in her town that serves daily meals....There is a senior group but they have to rent space in other buildings for their meetings or meet in local restaurants etc.
