Yes, but, even with all that geriatric sex, the STD rates for that age group are still miniscule compared to people in their 20s and 30s. This chart sorta puts things into perspective.

Thank you for putting things in perspective, particularly given the sensationalist, fear-mongering article headline and thread subject header.
Yeah, yeah. Panic-stricken hysteria is so much more fun for the puritans, and we just rained on their parade of paranoia.

No. From the article you posted, boldface mine:
"New research published Thursday by the British Medical Journal shows that 80% of 50 to 90 years olds are sexually active. And with that, cases of sexually transmitted diseases have more than doubled in this age group over the past 10 years."
I think the elderly men are to blame.
Ask any prostitute and she would say most of her clients were old men.
Then, these same old men come home to their wives amg give them the disesase.
Also, form personal experience, the older men I have been with(50 to 60) a majority didn't like to use condoms...some refusing to do so.(I'm not a prostitute, just was curious about older men)

Good Catch zentropa.
Looks like an writer trying to make something thats insignificant look signifcant. This writer is trying to freak out old people or is just plain stupid!
And here's the most ludicris statement. "You should be behave as the highest risk group" WTF? "You never have to retire from sex," says clinical psychologist Judy Kuriansky. "But you should always behave as the 20-30 year-olds do. You need to be cautious about it."

Wellllll, I wouldn't go that far. They should be using condoms unless and until they are cleared as STD-free and are in a monogamous relationship.
And meds won't cure herpes or HIV.

That's disconcerting. Those guys were in their 20s and 30s in the 80s and should be very much aware of HIV. Back then you couldn't open a magazine without reading about it, watch the news without hearing about it, buy a record, tape, or CD without seeing the HIV/AIDS public service announcement card inside ("AIDS is no party!"), watch an awards show without seeing red ribbons everywhere, or go to a fraternity party without the band throwing condoms out into the audience and taking a moment to say something about it from the stage (at my school, at least).
At any rate, I wouldn't be with someone who gave me a difficult time about that. No glove, no love.

Exactly. Viagra may have helped the increase, but if you look at the increases in all other age categories, inevitably the numbers will rise in the senior population as well.
I guess you don't think about STDs as seniors. A lot of them married young and never had to worry (unless their partners cheated) about that. (or AIDS).
The saddest program I saw was about this lady who was 60 something who was dating after divorce (or maybe she was a widow?) who got AIDS from her new boyfriend.
She never thought they 'need protection' since she was post menopausal.

I would expect the younger she is..the older we clients will be.
We men are as young as the girl we are feeling....LOL
