A 70-year-old climber who became the oldest American to scale Mount Everest three years ago, is heading to the mountain again at the weekend hoping to climb the world's tallest peak that straddles the Nepal-Tibet border from both sides.
Regardles of what you think about the Everest circus this is cool.
I am always amazed when I climb in the Alps how many really fit old guys there are ans how hard it is to keep up with many of them.
I am 46. I was rock climbing a few years ago and had just finished a sketching up a climb at my limlt when an old dude came up the trail walking with a cane. well into his 70´s I would guess. His slightly younger partner followed. At first I thought no way as he roped up. He then proceeded to float up my climb like it was nothing, barley bothering to place gear, 100% solid.
Rock on old dudes :-)
At my sailing club there is a 86 year old who windsurfs and races an A class cat quite well.
He is a bit hazerdous though-does´nt see so well.
My hat is off to people like that. Although I'll never climb a mountain, I do get more exercise now than I did when I was in my 20s. I walk to work now, and go to the gym 4-5 times a week. When I was 20 I drove everywhere and was too busy hanging out to ever go to the gym.
