Tuborg, great suggestion about Brunswick Forest. We actually took a look at that community on our trip a few months back, and it looked nice. We checked out 5-6 little places like that between New Bern and Leland, and BF was one of the one we liked best. If you like kayaking and birds, this is a good place to check out.

The big drawback for us, though, was how long it takes to drive to New York--we go several times a year, and need to be able to rush up there in a hurry, so (reluctantly) we decided Williamsburg is about as far away as we really feel we can be. But boy, Wilmington and Leland are in a lovely part of the country.

One of the best things about our retirement is my husband wanted to volunteer and use his skills to train teachers. So we did. A 2 year adventure in Uganda. Loved it.

I'm not great with money but fortunately my dh is a good planner and prepared for retirement as soon as he began working.
The problem is most people did not plan well or never planed at all. Many have lost there pension, home value, stocks, in these last few years. It will take many some time to catch up, problem is we do not have that time anymore, its been used up.

That's all very true. I'm extremely grateful my husband's work pension is very safe, no worries about it 'disappearing'. Our home value has decreased as well as has everybody's. We have no plans at all to sell though.

I'm for that if the 25 year old is physically healthy.
