The "Didja Know" thread today talks about how the forgetfulness of squirrels is an important factor in the growth of our forests. And the growth of the forests is an important factor in many other things, such as the the cleanliness of our air. So, in the grand scheme of things, thank god our squirrels are so forgetful!
Taking this a step further--the squirrel has no idea how his forgetfulness helps the world. He probably curses it. Maybe the same is true for us. The next time we curse a "senior" moment, take a moment to wonder if maybe it's all part of the grand scheme of things.
I don't worry much about forgetting stuff. Everyone forgets. Look at Children. Almost every kid has heard: "You'd forget your head if it wasn't attached" So I don't get upset about forgetting. I just tell people that by the time you've lived this long, you've learned so much and experienced so much that my memory banks are full. Some things have to drop out. I'm out of memory. I just hate it, though, when I walk into another room and forget what I came there for.
There is a reason why the forgetfulness of squirrels helps the growth of forests. However, there is no upside, no advantage, to the forgetfulness of seniors. Let's not delude ourselves into trying to make a positive out of a negative. Next someone will be saying there is something good about having balance problems leading to falls resulting in breaking our hips.
The only "grand plan" of nature is birth, growth to maturity, reproduction, protecting the young until they are independent, then decline and death.
However, there is no upside, no advantage, to the forgetfulness of seniors.
That we are aware of. OTOH, the squirrel is also probably convinced there is no upside or advantages to his forgetfulness. As far as he's concerned he worked hard burying those nuts and when he can't remember where they are, I'll bet he's po'd.

Why not? What harm comes from finding reasons to laugh or feel cheerful about life's little frustrations? Seems healthier to me than letting them irritate you.
It is irritating though.
Yesterday I went to see a movie. Got in the front of the line at the ticket booth and could not remember the name of the movie I wanted to see. Very embarrassing.
Ah, but the squirrel doesn't know he has forgotten. He just buries a whole bunch of nuts then just digs in likely places when he needs one. Humans on the other hand will find a way to worry about almost anything.

Hmmmm.... so maybe the squirrel is superior to the human, and we should take it as a compliment if someone calls us "squirrelly".
LOL I can hear the groans all the way across three time zones...
What can I say, it was just a little nutty thought that cheered me up this morning so I thought I'd pass it on. 'Cause you never know with little nuts... sometimes you forget about them, but then they root and grow into forests and end up saving the world.

If forgetfulness is part of her grand design I am fitting into her design quite well and hubby even better. Now what was the question or the statement?
I am ahead of the squirrel I always know where mine are.
