Hmmmmm doesn't people not saving for retirement create the questions about caring for them when they become elderly? Is there a possible cause and effect? Just pondering the possibility.

The reality that both of us have previously commented on is that the scale is dipping in favor of those who need and away from the resources to provide. bUU and several others would feel very comfortable with the Moral Monday movement. It is spreading in the South which is one of the regions with the least wealth to be redistributed. Our current social net is doomed and perhaps more quickly than we realize. One serious recession (inevitable ), interest rate hikes ( very probable ) and even one war and a lot could change in this country and others around the globe.

That's a given seeing how society has changed over the course of years with more single mother households.
The south is a lower cost COL area so of course you will have more poor residing there.
The south also has more "undocumented immigrants" and they will not be high earners ever.
It is what it is.
It was pointed out that we spend over $1 trillion in means tested programs and that is growing by 20% annually. ($800 billion in Fed dollars and $200 billion in state dollars).
We are on the slow road of decline if you ask me. I look at central and south America for what our future might turn into.

Single mother houses-especially with absent fathers-is a big problem, and I would argue a big part of low-income earners.
We need to think about to spend our social program funding so it isn't an enabler, but a short-term net that helps get moving forward. We need to develop programs to assist people to brush up on skills, perhaps microloans/small grants to start a business, ect. and hold them to it that they put in the time and effort to pursue these goals.

The more you want for free the higher your premiums are going to be.

$15 copay is not where it starts and ends.
Healthcare (insurance and medical cost) had already started getting crazy insane well before Obamacare.
(It didn't help.)

Folks our age who plan to spend down or transfer assets to avoid personally paying down the road will be in for a rude and probably fatal awakening. It is the same Medicaid fund that is breaking the back of states now. As you previously noted we have a lack if leadership on not only exploring alternatives but in even being honest with and explaining to people. ISIS is a direct threat to our social net as it is doubtful if we can afford a on the books war and ACA and other programs.

we don't get any subsidy on our obamma care plan at all. but even so where we were paying 14k for insurance prior we now pay 6k and basically the gold plan is pay as you go for anything but your primary.
since we are in a small business obama plan we have a 3k out of pocket each but the individual gold plan is 6k out of pocket.
if we have no excessive claims for the next 5 months we will have saved about 4-5k on the obama plan with zero subsidy.
