If it happens it could be the death of everything not just retirement.
But again if one has a policy wiith a high out of pocket my monkey brain tells me i better prepare to have a fund to pay it with before i need it.
If i had to work a 2nd job or overtime or whatever it took i would make sure that money would be there if i needed it for the out of pocket.
What i wouldn't do is go on my merry way pretending nothing will happen and i don't need to be concerned about having a fund for it.
once that was funded i would work on the retirement savings .
if i couldn't get a better job then i would have to keep working the 2nd job.
been there and done that. it is only a question of whether you want to make it happen or not.
To many take the road that consists of a plan where they hope nothing happens and they sit back and relax instead of finding a way to fund things by doing more
work to stay proactive..
are their cases out there who can't do the above ? sure but you know what? like losing weight very few obese people are obese because of actual malfunction of body parts.
more often than not it is because they refuse to eat less or move more and are not really committed to making it happen. . staying financially healthy is no different.

Can this discussion ever not he personal and deal with the aggregate side of the situation? Ok they aren't you and as a result of nature or nurture are wired differently and there area lot more like them.
it is what it is and if we are discussing those that have failed to save for their retirement the truth is many committed their own financial suicide. so why are we wasting our time arguing about pity for ALL of them like they are just one group..
again everyone is not in that catagory as some had some horrific events happen that were unavoidable and un-plannable , but enough just did it to themselves in one way or another and my point is arguing about why they are where they are is just an exercise in uselessness and no one benefits.
you have quite a few folks here who had terrible events happen to themselves and through determination they met their goals, and my hat is off to them.but then we have a whole bunch of others that just complain and don't act to improve things. they just wish things would happen.then we have articles daily that portray americans as if they are poor soles who had life just leave them behind financially when most of them just did it to themselves.
maybe i am just sick of all the daily pity articles the media throws at us.
i pretty much voiced my opinion and have nothing else to really say about it.

Of course I am; and apparently it upsets you so greatly to see comments repudiating the way you want to see the issue exclusively viewed that you cannot even admit to yourself that I'm talking about the topic. As long as you are in denial, it is pointless to engage you other than to prompt you to go back and read what I've already said for content rather than continue this ridiculous evasion.

But that's the point, of course: The only way to rationalize the perspective that mathjak107 prefers is to detach the human aspect from consideration.

sorry there buu, the pity ends when their own determination ended.. i will leave it to you to worry about the world. i have enough to worry about just making sure things go well in my life. i suggest you write them a check , that should solve the problem. other than that i have no clue what you even want anyone to do.
i already got the adopted family the rent stabilization board stuck us with to subsidize forever when they used landlords as political pawns..
