At what age did you (if ever) really say "damn, I'm really old!

Every time I get out of a chair...but a few steps and I'm a few years younger. At 70, transitions are hard but once I stack my bones and get my stride I'm OK.

It hit this morning when I looked in the mirror and thought, “Damn, I’m old.”

Then, I looked again for a second opinion and thought, “Damn, I’m ugly too.”

C’est la vie.

I did not think being 61 was all that old until last week after having an early 20s nursing student shadow me at work for the day. During the course of the day this student wanted me to tell her about what my nursing training was like 40+ years ago. When I began reflecting back and sharing about my days of white caps, uniforms, Clinic brand shoes, metal bed pans, hoppers, glass IV bottles and syringes, and following the doctors around carrying their 10 pounds of paper charts when they made rounds I realized my training was likely more similar to that of Florence Nightengale than that of this young nursing student who was cute as a button in her bright pink scrubs and multi colored clogs.

Yes, that experience did make me feel old, but still think I have a few more years before I cross the line to ancient.
