So few of us went. It seemed as though everyone went except me!

To those people who served in the military back then, thank you very much for doing that. Especially those who got sent to Viet Nam and to those who never came back. Some came back physically but not mentally. Sadly, my ex husband was one of those. And I was so totally against that war...the words to one song went, "What are we fighting for?" I just hope some good of it came because it was tragic for so many.

After having read more of the comments about Woodstock, I guess I'm still glad I didn't go. I'm no good if I can't take a shower or at least wash somehow. I always liked to go camping but there had to be a way of washing up and getting clean. Maybe they washed up in the rain?

More stories? I hope so--this thread is fun.

I was 10, living on a farm. Rock music was not allowed in our town. The nightly news had a story about the concert. They said that hippies were skinny dipping in a mud-hole. I remember looking, but the TV did not show anyone skinny dipping.

It might be a stretch, but I think the only positive thing to come out of that war was learning as a nation how to separate how we felt about the war with how we felt about the people who fought in it. I, too, knew several who came back in body, but it took a long, long time for their spirits to heal, if they ever did, completely. HOWEVER, there was always rock and roll!

BAH, totally agree with the "real" boom years definition.

No. I was 14 and getting ready to start freshman year of high school. I was the least ''hip'' nerd then and was clueless about it even happening until after the fact.

I'd been married for a year and a half and both of us were living in a tiny apartment close to the college we were attending. When I heard the news on the radio I put the Mamas and Papas on the stereo and got ready to go to my waitress job. I remember shedding a few tears and thinking I'd never have any fun anymore the rest of my life.

Oh, the angst!

I was 11, but I had sisters who were 6 and 8 years older. I remember them saying some guys they knew had gone up (it's two or three hours from where I grew up) but they turned around and came back when they saw the traffic jam.
