Thanks everyone.

TheShadow - I am setting the Echo up to do all those things except the Sirius as that requires a several hundred dollar subscription automatically renewed on the charge card.

Yes, RosemaryT, that is a cute video. That’s why I posted it in a different retirement thread months ago.

OldGardner - Yes, she still drives. In fact, she shuttles around seniors a decade or two younger than she is.

Upnorthretiree – Very inspiring.

Tek_Freek – I use the timers and reminders a lot. I can see her using the reminders, but not the timers.

I was really hoping to learn more about specific Alexa skills people like to use. I occasionally use the Wikihow skill. I just added Stock Screener. There is also a TD Ameritrade skill but I draw my line in the sand at having Alexa manage brokerage accounts and perform trading.

OK, this is ageist. Most seniors have been using computers and similar electronics for decades.

And The Greatist Generation has mostly passed away.

She is part of the Greatest Generation and she thought that clip was hysterical.

And, yep, I know a few seniors (younger than her) who don't own a PC, or tablet, or a Smartphone. One even draws the line at using a flip top cellphone. And, no, I'm not talking about anyone from the Amish/Mennonite communities. From what I've observed and read, more and more Amish are using cellphones ….

Alexa is cheap entertainment when my 88 year old mother and my almost 2 year old grandson both at the same time try to talk to Alexa. They are both screaming into her, my mother forgets her name, my grandson can't pronounce it clearly, and you never know what Alexa is going to say!

Has she noticed that you don't use it yet?

Just got a Ring camera for the front porch that shows the porch and the walk, so that when I am sitting in the basement at my craft desk I can get Alexa to show the camera image on command. It could have been hooked up to my phone or a tablet as well, but it works pretty well for this. It also works as a two-way intercom to the detached shop ("Alexa, Drop In on the Shop).

Stupid and goofy Alexa skill - it controls the main outlet for the outdoor Christmas lights, so I can turn them on and off with a command.
