We are the fourth owner of our home in a nice upper middle area. I do most everything electronically. The maid picks our mail every Saturday. Three or four copies of the same 4 or 5 different catelogues addressed to us and prior owners. We end up trashing 95% if the mail.

Must me a fortune e to make in home warranties, extended auto warranties and Medicare based in the junk mail we get weekly.

MY Daughter died 5 years ago Memorial day and even though ore post office box number is different, we still get mail addressed to her, We have learned to open it all, as some that could be adds, can be such as her annual notice of the size of a 401K with a years ago employer for over $27,000 which as her only heirs withdrew it 2 years ago. a couple small ones this year such as a $600 plus rebate from the electrical co-op which we had them use as a prepay on our electric bill.

I received my first AARP solicitation last month on my 50th birthday, and another exact one two days ago.

Well this is true but it beats the insurance you have to pay for if you retire before 65. Right now I pay $650 a month while my husband pays half that for better coverage on medicare. He had a knee operation right when he joined medicare but the doctors attempted to put it through to his old insurance before it expired and it would have cost him at least $1200 copay probably more but with medicare it cost us only $185 for the surgery center deductible. He didn't choose to go with the advantage plans because our doctors we currently have weren't covered.

I got some of their Medicare garbage in the past few months. It all goes straight into the garbage.

And is available to me anywhere in the country, though I have never tested it out.

It is worth the $205 to me to NEVER SEE A BILL. AS I have many serious/chronic/continuing medical issues.

But to each his own, or to each his affordable own.

In the state I live in Advantage plans limit you substantially. I personally know two surgeons who are not participating in Advantage plans here. A dermatologist I was seeing doesn't either. Those surgeons would be my first choice and the dermatologist was someone necessary to continuance of my biologic therapy for psoriasis. Maybe in NY it's different. My point is to look at providers you know and use before you sign up.

And, oh...United Healthcare? Whoa! Fasten your seatbelt! Had horrible coverage with them years ago. Absolutely the WORST insurance company I've ever had to deal with. Never again!

I'm so sorry about the loss of your daughter. I think it wise that you open all her mail, as you've clearly seen the importance of that. a bit OT here, but may I suggest you also check for unclaimed property in her name? Try NAUPA.org. There's a lot of such organizations that will search for unclaimed property, but never pay a fee, that's a scam! Also check your state dept of treasury unclaimed property division. Be aware they are updated every year, and much unclaimed property is not even reported for many years. Just a few years ago I found an unclaimed account for my grandfather, who passed in 1985!

We got this mail in our 40s. i have called some of these places and told them to stop sending this garbage. It's offensive that they make all these assumptions about people past a certain age.

When I moved and filled out a Change of Address with the post office it wasn't even a week after I was at my new location that I began to receive ads for local businesses. The USPS gave my new address to data brokers and it spread like wild fire. Apparently the only way to avoid that is to check the 'temporary' box on the Change of Address form.

Every time I received junk mail addressed to me I'd contact them to have my name removed.

My pharmacy would send out flyers with their ads and I had that stopped.

My health insurance would send two reports each month (one for Rx and the other for doctor visits), I had those changed to electronic versions only.

If I ordered something online I requested to not receive any catalogs.

Any time our name/address is blasted on the internet on those search sites it is there for the taking by any and all direct marketers. I found that there were over 10 sites with my info, I had each of them remove it; however, it still pops up again on other sites and I go after them as well to delete my information. It's not the end of it I'm sure.
