What are your true thoughts on this? I am a 68 year old senior in fairly good health, I personally feel I have a lot of life left in me. I was sad and hurt to read this, but I guess hard decisions have to be made at some point. I wonder if it will come to this in the US?

It will happen everywhere if the hospitals become overwhelmed.

I'm sure it happened in China only they didn't tell us.
Italy is the first country outside of China to reach a critical stage.
Spain has just got there and they are making choices as well.
France is next.

And we are on the same road. People are not isolating to contain the spread.

The situation in Italy seems to be so dire that things have devolved into the most primitive survival of the fittest mode. Not clear how it came to this as Italy is a first world country. The experts are telling us that the virus hasn’t reached it’s peak stage yet. Whether the US medical infrastructure can handle this is an open question.

Cannot, simple answer. America is maybe a week or so behind Italy.

Not everyone in hospital with the virus has to be on a vent/intubated. I just saw an article on CNN that Amy Klobuchar's husband is in hospital with the virus and is on oxygen.

I've been expecting this. I think the government will try hard to avoid making that decision but one must be prepared for it.

Which is why I'm no longer leaving my property for *any* reason and no longer ordering food or other items delivered. If I run low on store-bought food, I have citrus trees laden with fruit. I'm not a fan of grapefruit and the one sumo mandarin I tasted was incredibly bitter, but I could learn to eat them anyway if I had to.

The tangelos are delicious, though. If I had canning jars I'd make tangelo marmalade. Maybe freezer jam.

Wish I had chickens. I miss eggs.

Hopefully we won’t get there but if we get to the point where there aren’t enough ventilators they will have to make a choice similar to Italy and Spain.

I am okay with it, at age 63. I would hate to take the opportunity away from a younger person, someone who might be caring for children.

I have actually been on a ventilator and it is not something I want to do again; I've had a lot of life and do not need to prolong it this way.

And yes, I'm fairly healthy now and probably have a lot of life left yet, but would prefer to give my place to someone younger.

I wonder if people who die from the virus's resp degeneration are dying on vents. I have a friend who had collapsed lungs more than once and said that it was a terrible experience before he was put on, then, the BIPAP concentrator. I don't know that dying from being unable to breathe is anything one would choose. Are there mitigating treatment if one is dying and not being put on a vent? In hospice, I used to administer morphine for resp distress with good effect.
