I'm from Vegas and my mom had a gambling problem. I would catch her breaking into my piggy bank in the middle of the night when I was a child. I may have started investing; but, I ended up gambling. I should have only ever been in real estate if I had known myself well enough.

Understandable… I respect that ..

But what I don’t respect is lame excuses and mis information.

Honesty is the best excuse and I fully get that it isn’t for you

I did not make a lame excuse. I made a SS comment where you preferred an Investment comment.

you started throwing in market crashes wiping out retirees which hasnt happened yet unless it was the investors doing. you threw in how you are going to time markets .

so there was quite a bit of misinformation and fear mongering

What are you talking about? Retirees have never been harmed by markets? Are you insane?

This is correct.

You know, I cannot have a conversation with someone who is completely delusional. So, let's just agree to disagree MathJak.

markets are higher then ever . every 30 year period , all 121 rolling 30 year retirement time frames have had higher markets .

retirees have been hurt by inflation and their own poor actions far more than markets . they speculate in individual stocks , try to time things and make bad decisions .

a 50/50 portfolio has never , i repeat never , lost money in any 10 or 20 year period

So this thread started as regarding whether to buy a home outright or to buy with a mortgage. At least in either case a buyer has rights that a renter gives up. Renters are at the mercy of their landlords. Some landlords are great in providing well maintained accommodations. But for many of us that is not enough. We want our pet. We want our freedom to modify the design, etc.

Renting vs buying, by any method, is a different topic, in my opinion.
