"Sure, honey, I'll get right on it!" This made me laugh this morning...wish I had something to say that would make you laugh...hope you find a solution soon.
Oh, I'm very susceptible to humor right now.
Q: What did the triceratops tow with his tow truck?
A: Tyrannosaurus Wrecks
Absolutely. Pandemic, remember? Lots of people out and about who are infected with Omicron and don't know it yet.
Well, if you have a mask, scarf, to cover your face, and he has a mask, you should be fairly safe.
Or maybe the gas stations sell masks you can buy to provide driver one if he doesn't have one.
I thought maybe your concern was trying to climb up into the tow truck.
I don't really see many other choices but to risk it, you need to move on, especially if it's cold there.
Best to you.
And I second the idea to call your insurance company.
Also, in hind sight, but before we take any major trips, we take the vehicle to Firestone, and pay the $20 for the "trip inspection" option. They check all fluids and usual breakdown suspects.
The Chevron gas station is open 24 hours,so if she is cold, she could go inside.
May be someone in the gas station knows someone who could lend you a car?? or call a mechanic in a few hours,it is 7 am now Central here.
Sorry this is happening, Fluffy. Maybe by now (this morning) you have a solution?
I did away with AAA Premium for a year, but recently bought it back. Felt insecure without it.
Whatever you do, I hope you get to that medical appointment. I'm with the person who suggested your STBX should send for it. You tried. It's not your problem anymore. We all know you weren't the cause of the breakdown.

The problem is that in AZ people who are wearing masks at all are still wearing those blue masks or even cloth masks, which do not filter out the smaller Omicron particles. All the health authorities are telling people to wear N95s, which are possible to get online, though I don't know how many people know that.

The spouse is supposedly on his way but he's at least 14 hours out. He had to go to SFO and rent a car because his Nissan Leaf with its 80 mile range won't get him here unless he gets out and pushes it. I'm sorry, but $45,000 for a car that can't even go 100 miles is just dumb.

Oh, they'd have a field day with the Jetta.
Not that it will help now, but next time hire someone to drive or transport the car. Especially such an old car.
Right up the road, about 3/4 mile, from Chevron is Dazzos RV Park/Restaurant. Perhaps call or walk over for advice? Many RV parks are a good source for info on road service and repair options.

too late now
We will all face a situation -we get old,car get old and house set old,if you have a pet.pet gets old too.
I envy those immigrant families where elderly come up with the down payment of the house and more in with their kids.
Usually a widow in law or parent, somehow the family does not mind

Good point.
