The depressing part is mainly those that could help themselves, but prefer to live in squalor on the streets, rather than living with roommates in relative comfort.

Finding roommates requires a degree of personal effort, which people must save for finding meth or fentanyl. First things first.

Re: Roommates

I was never homeless or even truly poor -- but at one point, more than half my income was spent on rent so that I could live by myself. (I am an introvert who shared a bedroom with three sisters.) I took the bus and lived very cheaply, but different people have different priorities, and not all of those priorities are bad.

(Just sayin')

I've already got one. He's only fifty-four, but still. I don't know what the solution is, either, except for me to sell my home and move far away.

I mentioned this example before (the only one I know a family member of a co-worker). He is schizophrenic who was diagnosed decades ago. There is money in the family with the brother and nephew (brother/son of my co-worker) who are both in the real estate business (one being a developer). They cannot house him because he will destroy the place and they just cannot control him due to mental illness. He cannot be contained.

This is an example of why the mental institutions need to be brought back.

The topic is : ‘Unconscionable’: American baby boomers are now becoming homeless at a rate ‘not seen since the Great Depression’

Your comments are incorrect. Many unhoused seniors are unable of the work involved in finding roommates because they suffer from cognitive impairment. I'm reluctant to believe that they are all on the streets trying to score illicit drugs.

I think I'd rather be homeless than have to live with roommates. I've tried it a couple times and the problem isn't as much me not getting along with others, but others getting along with me. I'm an introvert too and home is my sacred, safe space...not a place where I come home from a stressful day of dealing with people at work and am expected to hang out and chat with my roomies all evening.

I tried that once during a transition in life, moved into a woman's house with my own private room and bathroom. We were around the same age and liked each other enough that we agreed on a one month trial. At the end of one month she told me to move out. Apparently I stayed in my room too much and she thought it was weird, said she thought I did it to hide from her or drinking/using drugs. LOL I got the hell out of there as soon as I could.

I find that hilarious ..... Always surprises me (as an introvert) to find that other people interpret the need to be alone as rude or dismissive.

Extroverts can't even comprehend it, and even most "normal" people find it weird. The days that I don't have to see or speak to another human are the best days, for me. I can do around 4-6 hours of human interaction before I have to retreat into solitude for the rest of the day.

I should have told that former roomie of mine that yes, I was totally using drugs in my room...they're called "books". LOL
