It's funny. When moving to ME this past spring; in three of the places I looked at, the people moving out were all bailing to NC! Seems to be the place now, and I think this past winter was really the last straw for many in the Northeast.
Ha ha!!!
I think thousands and thousands of RI'ers should move to Asheville NC. Go on, go ahead, just do it. True justice.
Maybe I'm just in a bad mood, but can we please cool it with the "everyone knows the South is better than the North" stuff and the extremely thinly veiled racism (i.e. people from 90-percent non-white Newark are moving to Providence en masse -- there's no way that's true, by the way -- and making it even more terrible than it already is)? It's noxious and offensive.
This is one of those times I really start to regret my attempts to be nice and honest and fair. I want to unload on the South, but I happen to like the South, so I can't. At least I can tell you this -- and unlike many people, I will be sure to accurately represent this as a personal opinion -- I have been to 38 states, and North Carolina is easily in my bottom five. I visited with my wife when she was desperate to leave New York and looked at every trip as a relocation scouting mission. After a few days, she asked me hopefully, "Would you live here?" I remember telling her, and this is almost a direct quote, "I think living here would make me very sad."

You must be, because that's in no way what anybody implied.
I saw *precisely* the same dog-whistling in the post as b-def did, before I read his post. Not quite as obvious a code as if you'd said 'Harlem', I guess, but clear enough.

For all of the narrow minded above opinions, it is important to note that the posters who respond are a very small subsection of the posters who may or may not live in RI, and see the bickering and childish posts from RI'ers. Everyone realizes and recognizes the reflex and knee jerk reactions from those who are still residing there. Who knows, some of you may decide to leave and relocate to other states, it IS a free country.
You also have to realize that relocation is not a "have to move" situation. Moreover, it is a well thought out decision for several reasons. Most of you posters who like to bash others who have relocated, are transplants yourselves from other states. Whether by choice or job relocation. At least 30% of citizens of the USA relocate consistently at one time or another. Another big chunk of people from RI, retire to other states by choice. That does not mean they have to be subjected to personal attacks. All posters have the right and freedom to post informatively while responding to questions from others considering the move with reasonable advice.
There is a need to realize that every poster has the right and freedom to respond on this or any forum, to threads that are of interest to them, with honest opinions from a lifetime of experience living in a particular state -- and with the right not to be excoriated for opinions based on where they, the native RI'ers, have relocated to.
Personally, I will never understand why RI'ers are so defensive. Maybe it takes half a lifetime in one place to realize that people are free to move around the country at will. That type of attitude is very telling, either from upbringing, jealousy, or complacency. My goodness, you'd think we all moved to Communist China or something. Ha ha, don't take it personally.

They also recognize the knee jerk reactions and nasty pot shots from those who left the state. Funny how that goes.

Absolutely true.
Too bad the advice of posters who moved here from other places is often summarily dismissed as not being from "real" Rhode Islanders. IMO, they the most to offer of any posters here, being in the same boat as those seeking information about RI.

Absolutely true. They see with fresh eyes and unprejudiced minds and don't base comments on decades long past.
