Even though I've been in Florida for years, we've been having such a brutal summer that I'm starting to get nostalgic for the Rhode Island Beaches and even started looking at property listings in Westerly.

So make me jealous, how have the Rhode Island beaches been this summer? Fun? Crowded? New attractions? Water too cold or just right? How has the weather been? Are you all looking forward to Labor Day weekend?

Great! Not much different than any other year. We've had a few fewer 90+ days this summer which is fine with me.

Rhode Island beaches are the best on the New England coast, IMO. I always found the water to be a bit less cold than the Cape waters. Misquamicut, East Beach, etc. love them all and I do miss them.

The RI beach weather has been cooler than normal. A bit Maine-ish. Good news is no one is complaining about bugs.

Yes, I heard it has been cooler than usual this summer in the Northeast. What I wouldn't give for a day or two of that down here.

OTOH, not so good for swimming up there.

I don't think it's been that cold! Takes about 5 minutes to acclimate to the water and then you can stay in for about an hour- at least this is my experience.

After spending a number of summers on the Cape, where the water is so cold your feet get a toothache, I found the waters of Rhode Island to be delightful. It's just as you say, and very much easier to acclimate to.

Well hello there Kmarc! Nice to see you visiting my 'neck of the woods'.

I completely agree with you that the RI waters are more comfortable than the Cape. It does take me a bit before I'll fully jump in but the beaches are swimmable. I had a few visits this years where there were numerous baby jelly fish but other than that, it has been a good summer for our area.

Hey, Sunshine! Are you still down here? Yes, I got nostalgic for the RI beaches this year, what with all the nasty heat here in Florida. Started looking at pictures and videos of the Westerly/Watch Hill/Charlestown areas just to reminisce about the summers up there. Sigh. Would love to be a snowbird and spend summers up there and winters down here. Those Rhode Island beaches are the best in all of New England, IMO. Gotta watch out for those jellyfish, though. We get them here, too.

Anyway, hope you're having a good time in our neck of the woods. Probably you've found out that swimming in the Gulf during the summer is just gross, lol. Not exactly refreshing.
