Interesting about how the Republican's holding up of DHS funding will impact RI's emergency management funding.

Rhode Island is in New England. It snows in New England during the Winter. It's currently Winter and it's snowing. No surprise. So why should the feds pick up the tab for expected events?

I agree.

I'd like to extend that logic to Hurricanes in Florida, the Gulf Coast, etc. And to tornadoes in trailer parks.

I don't know. Truly horrific hurricanes like Katrina and super storm Sandy are infrequent and far more devastating than a couple or three predictable, non-spectacular snow storms, though with climate change, we can expect even more ferocious hurricanes that create carnage at such a fantastic level that no state could possibly recover on their own. Of course, it's also up to state leaders to up their building codes to reduce damage. As to trailer parks and tornadoes, what's up with that, anyway?

I just hate this "gimme-gimme" attitude over a few flakes of snow. But I suspect all of that will change now that "Wall Street Gina," the Republicrat gov of RI is now sitting in the Big Chair, albeit with a Manhattan phone book on it so she can see above the desk...

Just raise taxes. Everybody in RI should be willing to pay more tax for services.

So, do you guys have any idea of how many programs in RI run on federal funds?

Do you have any idea of what taxes would be here without federal funds?

Did you read the article? "The Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency receives $7 million annually from the department, which is the bulk of its funding, Reed added."

And to anyone who would enjoy paying more taxes, the RI treasury would love to have some voluntary contributions over and above your taxes….

Oy gevalt! Enough!

The headline of your thread? "The DHS and snow removal in RI," and that's what has been discussed.

Not everyone wants to have both hands and both lips firmly attached to Uncle Sam's teat over a few flakes of snow. And it is that sense of dependency, that need and sustenance on federal welfare that probably contributed for getting your state in the, well, "state" it is in. It engenders a weakness that is dangerous and only encourages less self-reliance. Read Emerson.

As to the rest of your post, perhaps I"ll comment later: my my ears still ring with the shrillness and desperation of your plaints.

Huh? If anyone is headed to the fainting couch, it's you. Calm down and buck up -- that's my advice.

Want plowed roads? Pay For Them.

Now. Who uses roads? Let's see... cars? Trucks? Taxis? Solution: pay for the services you use. If you can't cope with that reality, I can see where federal welfare would appeal to you,

Relying on the Feds for snow removal? That is what STATE budgets are for. PERIOD. You guys need more toll roads.
