I don't imagine you would take too kindly to being called what was once reference for a cigarette or "bundle of sticks", for instance.
No, but if someone refers to me as a "cigarette", I'm smart enough to know what they mean. You're so easy to tease out. You just can't resist making my point.

Well then you will have to forgive me for living in the year 2021 and generally using language in a modern context, in which this particular word has evolved into a non-racial one. That happens over time, with all sorts of expressions. I will take cultural/personal sensitivities into consideration, but that's usually better achieved through respectful dialogue than via. personal attack.
The connotation is still there; "modern context" just means the race has changed.

The word is antiquated and no longer has a place in everyday usage. You would argue that, but that is what a racist does. I picked this argument with you as January 27 is International Holocaust Day and your continued use with an offensive term has to be stopped. Your yawning and sighing are just your attempt to bully other adults. Grow up it doesn't work. This is a personnel attack against you and might be deleted, but racism can not be allowed to hide behind anonymous postings. i will not let it stand.
I understand your sentiment. And I do agree that it is used here by some to bully.
I don't like the word. I don't think it is applicable to our Providence neighborhoods. In a broader context, whether it applies or not, I think it stigmatizes neighborhoods and stigmatizes people unfairly. But I am uncomfortable with banning words. The answer to bad speech is more speech, not speech suppression.
1. City-Data is not a "social media forum", it's a place for discussing facts and data (hence the name City-"Data"). I understand that's difficult for you.
And your continual use of the term "ghetto" is 100% subjective, and has no relation to facts and city-data.
I don't Ser how you can argue that point when its been shown over and over again that ghetto is in the eye of the beholder.
Which makes it a very bad word to use if one wishes to be understood, since everyone's definition is different. To you, the world is a ghetto

“Ghetto” is a pejorative term which has always identified a place where disfavored minorities, of every sort, have lived, virtually since the word’s origin. Most lately, a dog whistle favored by racists.
