Everyone knows that un-metered street parking is at a premium in downtown RVA. This is especially true for heavily developed roads (like Broad St) and areas near major attractions, such as restaurants, theaters, etc.

If you've ever been downtown on Broad St in the first block of West Broad St (corner of Foushee and Broad I believe) you may have seen a sign that reads "No Parking. For Valet Only" [or something to that end] in front of a pretty popular restaurant. The restaurant has apparently commandeered the last two or 3 spaces on the block for their Valet service.

Is that legal?

What would then prevent me from putting a sign in front of a particular spot saying "No Parking. For 540_804 Only"? What would stop a particular business from placing a sign that read "For xxxx Customers Only"?

Again, it's not really a big deal to me at all. I have no intention of challenging it's legality in anyway. In fact, I know of a few more restaurants in the area that could use valet parking. It was more a matter of curiosity than anything. I just always wondered if the restaurant would have any real manner of recourse if someone decided they really wanted to park their in spite of the restrictive signage.

Tarrants.

Bistro 27 could probably use a valet service. I wouldn't complain.
